Cultural Competency in Direct Care
About Course
Cultural competency is not a soft skill — it is a federal and Maryland regulatory requirement. Under Title VI, Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act, HHS CLAS Standards, and COMAR 10.22, every direct care professional serving individuals in DDA-licensed group homes and assisted living facilities must be equipped to deliver respectful, individualized, culturally responsive care.
This compliance training equips Direct Support Professionals with the knowledge, tools, and self-awareness to honor the cultural identities of the individuals they serve — from dietary and religious practices to language access and family engagement. Failure to meet these standards can result in OHCQ survey deficiencies, corrective action plans, and licensure risk.
This is not just about compliance. It is about dignity.
